APPEAL GUIDES · REVIEWED 14 OCT 2026

Still flagged after an appeal? A follow-up checklist

Compare the same indicator, check the vendor response, and separate a pending review from a cached result.

Confirm what the vendor actually reviewed

Compare the URL, subdomain, path, or SHA-256 in its reply with the one in your report. A review of the homepage does not necessarily apply to every URL, and a review of one file hash does not cover a rebuilt binary.

Check whether the reply says the submission was received, the verdict was changed, or more evidence is needed. An acknowledgement is not a clearance.

Check the current vendor result

Use the vendor’s official lookup or product where available and save the result. If it still blocks the indicator, reply to the same case with the current evidence. Use any follow-up instructions in the response.

This directory does not promise a response time. Review queues, data distribution, and historical records vary by provider.

Request a fresh VirusTotal analysis

After a correction, refresh the analysis for the exact indicator. Compare the new result and analysis date, rather than an old screenshot.

If a URL verdict remains after a confirmed vendor removal, VirusTotal’s contact guidance says to provide its support team with evidence of that removal so they can investigate cached results.

Distinguish history from an active block

Some threat-intelligence services preserve previously confirmed incidents. OpenPhish states that a URL confirmed as phishing at detection time remains in its historical data. That policy is different from agreeing that a current clean page should still be blocked.

Ask the provider which result is being disputed: a current verdict, a category, or a historical observation. This makes the follow-up much more precise.
